What does it take to be a star? Most of your answer should be “Most of all, she must be a very good-looking person”. Have you overlooked something? I think, it takes more than beauty to be a star after I’ve seen this woman in the film “Boys don’t cry”.
Do you know her? NO! I didn’t mean the blondy girl, I mean the other!
Here she is. One of my most favorite Hollywood stars, 2 times Academy award winner “Hilary Swank”. She was “Brandon” in the movie “Boys don’t cry” - unrestrained tomboy who looking for true love with a real woman.
She (Swank) was paid only 3,000 dollars! for this sex- crisis role. But the big prize came later; she won her first Oscar as the best Actress in leading role in the year 1999.
Follow by her second in the year 2004 as a woman boxer in “Million Dollar Baby”.
The things that make her become a renowned Hollywood star are not her beauty, her scandal or her boyfriend but her ability, extremely self confident and her splendid performance with a little talent.
In my point of view, she should be a role modal for actresses all over the world and her reputation should be known throughout the world. But she isn’t –Why? I admit that she is not so beauty compared to the others. But it is not so important. The important things are her splendid performance and her stainless life. Sometimes, we let the physical appearance to blind our judgment. A bad story or scandal of a star can reach our ears faster that a good story. We should tune up our perceptions a bit and we will find out that there more good things waiting for us.

I don’t think it is the first time for Swank’s case. There are many cases like this as same as Oscar 2007, when Jennifer Hudson was nominated and awarded as the Best Actress in Supporting Role from DREAMGIRLS. I don’t think that she is the supporting actress. I absolutely agree to nominate and reward her in leading role. I don’t think Beyonce ( she is absolutely more beautiful than Hudson) has taken the leading role. I really mean that and why?

If you have seen DREAMGIRLS, you will find out that she has performed very well in the role she has got. It is possible that the committee really want to award her. If she was nominated in leading role, she would miss it because there were many white stars nominated (Racism?). Then they decided to nominate and award her in other role. That may be the reason, I think.

Being an actor/actress is one career. In order to become successful, abilities are beyond outer appearance. Working is not just playing but we have to use out intelligence and show off our abilities, talent and put on any effort in order to be accepted. It's the same for being the actor/actress. It doesn't mean that anyone who is good-looking will become a superstar if that person acts like a death tree.

I honestly say I don't know much about west superstars. But I know how a good superstar should be in term of audience's point of view. As they are presented in public place, their appearances should be nice, handsome, elegant in order to attract audience. The ability in perfomance is also included. They should able to act whatever roles they response by their great talents. These seem to be the important factors, But not enough. Their minds and manner are also necessary in being a famous superstar. If they are good looking, good acting but bad in manner, they wouldn't be trusted as a famous superstar.
